Boracay: An Island Paradise
Beautiful Boracay! This seven kilometer-long island is the Philippines’ pride when it comes to beaches. Shaped like a bone, this island is about 45 minutes away from Manila (the country’s capital) by plane. It is located on the northwest end of Panay island in the Western Visayas.
Boracay offers plenty of diversions depending on your inclination. For water sports enthusiasts, you can go sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, kite-surfing and banana-boat riding. For those who just want to lay their hair down and relax, the clear, warm waters and the fine white sand are plenty of inducement to just spend the day at the beach.
Now, let’s talk about Boracay’s famous beaches. The island itself is one paradise surrounded by white beaches. The list includes Diniwid Beach, Baling Hai Beach, White Beach and Punta Beach, to name a few. Besides this, you can also choose to head for the nearby islands (especially if you want to get away from the crowd).
You can also try to climb up Mount Luho, which is 100 meters above sea level. After an exhilarating climb, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the island and the surrounding waters. If you are so inclined, you can go to the northeast coast of Yapak. There, you will find the home of huge fruit bats and cave bats. At night, thousands of these bats fly right over your head. Another eerie experience is to be had at the Dead Forest, where dead trees cast their ghost-like shadows.
For family oriented activities, you can try the butterfly garden at Bolabog Beach. Kingfisher’s Farm features a fish farm that raises tilapia. You can try your hand at catching your meal. Boracay Rock and Willy’s Rock are fascinating rock formations. The surrounding beach is also great for picking shells and looking at starfish.
Then, after the day has ended, it’s not yet time to go back to your room. Change to your glittery finery (or just your usual shirt and short will do). It’s time to party, party, party! The pulsating beat of modern music and the heat of the closely pressed bodies emanate energy to help you party until daybreak.
